Customs and border protection data revealing border apprehensions per day in March are down 94 percent from this time last year with only 264 crossings per day. My next guest says the border crisis is over after his recent trip to Mexico. He says it’s over. Let’s bring in Center for Immigration Studies Senior National Security Fellow and overrun author Todd Bensman. So Todd, tell us more. When you say it’s over, this is it.
BENSMAN: Right. I say it’s over because of the combination of policies that the Trump administration put in. They’re multi-layered. They’re all the way into the interior, all the way down to southern Mexico and beyond. They’ve got the Mexican military operating on their side, blocking, halting, returning, deporting. The Trump administration is prosecuting hundreds and hundreds of illegal crossers. Everybody they catch is being detained, either prosecuted or subject to expedited removal. All of this together has really dampened plans on the other side, on the Mexican side, for people to come across. They’re not going to spend $5,000, $10,000 to just get returned back to square one. And that’s how it works. It took about an hour on Inauguration Day and it was over. Not a big Senate bill, not
comprehensive immigration reform or any of that. Just simply using the tools available.
HOST: Because the president’s words matter. And President Joe Biden, border is open, come on over. That was the message. President Trump, it is closed. Do not come. There you go. Justice Samuel Alito,
by the way, is blasting this recent Supreme Court decision to halt President Trump’s deportations. I’ve been as well. criminals. He wrote in a dissent, it’s pretty strong language, the court issued unprecedented and legally questionable relief without giving the lower courts a chance to rule, without hearing from the
opposing party, within eight hours of receiving the application, with dubious factual support for its order, and without providing any explanation for its order. Well, Border Czar Tom Holman defended the administration. Watch….
NEWS CLIP: HOMAN I believe we’re moving, removing public safety threats and terrorists, designated terrorists, to that prison in El Salvador. Trend Day Hour, MS-13, we’re a designated terrorist organization. I’ve held dead bodies throughout my career. I’ve talked to a hundred angels and moms, angel moms and dads, whose children were killed and brutally murdered by members of MS-13. We just didn’t kill them. They mutilated them. They tortured them. So if people wore my shoes for the last 40 years and seen the travesties I’ve seen, they would understand that the worst of the worst need to be sent to a prison like that, because they’re not going to get away with it. Because we’ve got to protect American citizens. We’ve got to protect the, and protect this country. President Trump posted about this on Truth Social saying, quote, Garcia has been found by two separate courts to be a member of MS-13, was in our country illegally, and is under a deportation order. It’s despicable and American for liberals in the mainstream media to hate our country so much and be obsessed with protecting criminals instead of working to keep our border streets and families safe.
HOST: Todd, your reaction?
BENSMAN: Well, it is interesting that the opposition chose that hill to die on. By the way, I just want to point out that the informant that pegged this guy as an MS-13 gang member is a longstanding, highly credible informant. According to all the reporting I’ve read, a police informant, two judges accepted that
informant’s information. And in addition to that, most recently the… Tennessee Star is reporting that a
Tennessee trooper busted this guy coming from Texas with a load of eight quote-unquote workers to work at construction jobs in Maryland. And it appears that that’s not his first time. The guy may have been making his living transporting illegal aliens. So there’s a lot going on here. I can’t believe that they’re picking that hill to die on. This is, to me, one other thing about that. The opposition, the media, keeps saying, well, he hasn’t been convicted of MS-13-related activity. You don’t have to be convicted in this country for deportation. You just have to have derogatory information on you that’s sufficient. And in this case, you had derogatory information that was more than sufficient to deport this guy.
HOST: Still, it’s become a mystery. major story, and we’re looking at pictures of Senator Van Hollen, so I want to ask you about this. I spoke with Rachel Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, last week after Congressman Riley Moore called for Senator Van Hollen to meet with her and her family following her daughter’s passing. Listen to this exchange.
HOST TO PATTI MORIN: West Virginia Congressman Riley Moore, today on our show, he actually called for Senator Van Hollen to meet with you and your family. He said that to me about an hour and a half ago. Would you be willing to meet with him?
PATTI MORIN: I would have to think about it, because I just think everything they’re doing are for political reasons. And I think that a lot of the things that they’re doing is, the Democrat Party is a mess. They’re looking for some kind of a leader, and I think different states and different Democrats are vying for either governor positions or to run the race in 2028 and so I think they’re trying to pick issues and make themselves loud and proud on media to see if they can get one of those you know spots so I would want to know his intentions is it political is it so I can say well I met with Rachel Lauren’s mom and it’s like you know I’m not on their belt or is it because they genuinely care and so far they haven’t shown that they genuinely care so here’s Senator Van Hollen responding to Patty Morin’s criticism of his trip. VAN HOLLEN: So what happened to the Morin family was awful and unacceptable I cannot imagine losing a child like they lost Rachel and I said at the time that my heart goes out to
the Morin family and I’m I don’t know what to say about that. I’m glad that the killer of Rachel Warren has been convicted in a court of law.
HOST: Todd, your reaction to that?
BENSMAN: Yeah, a Salvadoran in Maryland raped and murdered Rachel Warren. I don’t think that people understand really how dastardly that crime was. It needs to be repeated. That guy (Van Hollen) is backfilling on being called out for never mentioning that case in his jurisdiction. and should be uprated for that and not allowed to just be able to come in after the fact. He’s politicizing this case for his own purposes, for his party’s purposes, and it’s just a shame that people… People are not recalling or remembering what Salvadoran illegal alien… criminals due to us in this country so you know I’m not
accepting what he’s saying; he’s playing politics again and nobody should be allowed to fight on that
hill without acknowledging the many crimes of these illegal alien criminals…
HOST: Before you go do you think American taxpayers should be voting the bill for all these Democratic congressmen and then Senator Van Hollen going to El Salvador because Tom home I made a great point yesterday he said well Senator Van Hollen never went to the border for four years under Joe.
Biden now we’re paying for him to go to El Salvador…
BENSMAN: Well, you know of course not. I mean what’s going on here is just it’s it’s just despicable really that they’re they’re politicizing…they’re falling over themselves to defend a guy who is named by highly credible police informant as an MS-13 gangbanger. I mean, what is going on here? And then,
you know, spending taxpayer money to go down to personally defend him, make him out to be a, you know, a loving father and husband who, by the way, beat his wife repeatedly. You’re defending wife beaters now? Hey, go for it if you want to stay in politics.
HOST: Todd Bensman, thank you so much for being here. Really appreciate your perspective.
