Bensman regarding Border Patrol morale: The Border Patrol – the rank and file guys who are on the front lines – you know, their morale is just terrible. I’ve never seen it like this. These are people who are trained to block and interdict and arrest and, you know, they’re cops. They’re badge and gun carrying cops. And they are not allowed to do any of that. They are only allowed to do the paperwork necessary to wave in the people they would normally block and arrest and detain and deport. And so, they’re fundamental job duty has been changed to this bureaucratic thing of letting in the people that you’re not supposed to let in. So that’s very disconcerting, and morale is terrible down there among those people; it’s just terrible. I have a lot of them talk to me when I’m down there in the field, and they’re very candid with me about it, wherever I go.
Bensman regarding State of Texas deployment to the border:
I’ll tell you why the State of Texas leadership says they did this. They see the Biden administration as having caused and fomented this mass migration crisis, and that in doing so they have placed the state populace at risk… there’s 26 million people who live in Texas. They have a force, Texas Department of Public Safety, with considerable assets. Air, land and water that they are able to deploy to the border. They believe that Border Patrol agents have been pulled off line to take care of children, who were fomented to come across, and families. And it is true that Border Patrol agents are very busy, probably eating up all of their shifts, just processing in these families that Biden invited in. So that leaves all these big gaps in the border for drug traffickers and criminal aliens and all manner of mischief-makers to come through. So they have put 500 personnel down there in patrol cars, in helicopters and on the boats to shore up the line. That’s what they say.
